Five tips to prevent ingrown hairs

We always recommend you shave before your first IPL hair removal session - but how do you prevent those unwanted little ingrown hairs?

Keep reading to discover five tips in preventing the chance of getting an ingrown hair when preparing your skin for the treatment.

1. Don't dry shave your legs

Always make sure you use shaving cream, a lotion or a moisturising shower gel while you shave. Shaving dry hair can create sharp edges that are more prone to growing back into your skin.

2. Always use a sharp razor

Always ensure you are replacing your razor every few uses to ensure you are getting a smooth and easy shave. Blunt razors require you to go over certain areas a few times, which may irritate your skin and welcome ingrown hairs.

3. Shave in the direction that your hair grows

We know you've heard it before, but shaving in the direction of hair growth prevents your hair from curling back into your skin during the next phase of growth.

4. Don't use a tweezer

If you tweeze your hair, it might break under the skin surface and result in ingrown hair.

5. Use an electric razor to prep for your IPL session

Lastly, we recommend considering the use of an electric razor or clippers to get a really smooth shave. Your hair should be trimmed to just a few short millimetres before you begin your treatment in order to get the best possible results from your IPL handset.
